"Safeguarding is everyone's business"

The welfare of children and adults is of paramount importance to GAVO and we aim to provide support and guidance to staff and to any voluntary organisation that has contact or works with children, young people and/ or vulnerable adults.

We do this through the work of the GAVO Safeguarding Action Group which draws on the following legisation, policy and guidance:

  • Children Act, 1989 and 2004

  • Safeguarding Children: Working Together under the Children Act, 2004

  • All Wales Child Protection Procedures, 2008

  • Wales Policy and Procedures for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults from Abuse

We also provide:

  • Representation at the South East Wales Safeguarding Children’s Board (SEWSCB) and Gwent Wide Adult Safeguarding Board (GWASB)

  • Representation on associated Multi Agency and Planning & Review Groups

  • Training

  • Help with policy development i.e. Child Protection, Managing allegations against staff and whistle blowing

  • Disclosure and Barring Support

  • Guidance on information sharing - Wales Accord on Sharing Personal Information (WASPI)

  • Signposting
