The Transport to Health Project

What It's About

The Transport to Health project has been set up to support community transport across the Anuerin Bevan University Health Board area (Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport, South Powys and Torfaen).

It has been identified that there are areas where public transport provision is fragmented. This can mean long travel times to get to major health settings which is inconvenient at best, but presents real barriers to residents with additional support needs, low incomes or who live in an isolated location. There has been recognition that community transport could be hugely beneficial in helping these residents access health settings for appointments or to visit loved ones.

The project is a partnership between us (GAVO), Community Transport Association, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB), Torfaen Voluntary Alliance (TVA) and Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations (PAVO). GAVO has appointed a Regional Community Transport Coordinator specifically to run the project and support interested parties.

What It Can Provide

The Transport to Health project has grant funding becoming available from 19th July 2021, to support the growth and development of accessible and inclusive transport to help residents to access health settings for appointments or to visit loved ones in hospital. The funding is available to existing community transport enterprises, to support the development of new schemes and to encourage new partnerships within the sector.

Applications will be invited for up to £10,000 of funding.
