Newport Makerspace / Creudy Casnewydd is an exciting, community‑run workshop based in Maindee—offering a creative, accessible and friendly space where people can make, repair, learn, and share skills together. Now, local community groups are being encouraged to explore opportunities to deliver sessions, activities and collaborative projects from this unique space.

With three rooms packed full of tools, equipment and resources, Newport Makerspace provides everything needed for “traditional” crafts, creative projects, hands‑on workshops and practical learning. The space is designed with accessibility in mind, including wheelchair access and height‑adjustable work surfaces, making it suitable for a wide range of community-led activities.

Why get involved?

Community groups across Newport are already looking for new ways to engage residents, help people learn new skills, and strengthen connections. Newport Makerspace offers an ideal environment for groups to:

  • Run creative sessions such as crafting, digital making, upcycling, or practical building projects

Deliver repair workshops, promoting sustainability and reducing waste

  • Host skill‑sharing meetups, from arts and crafts to light engineering and DIY

  • Offer wellbeing-focused activities, using making and creativity to reduce isolation

  • Develop new intergenerational or community‑led programmes in an inspiring and supportive setting

Whether you’re a community centre, youth group, cultural association, volunteer led initiative or wellbeing project, the Makerspace team is open to exploring partnership ideas.

A welcoming space for all

Newport Makerspace is run by a friendly community of engineers, artists, hobbyists, tinkerers and makers of all kinds. Regular activities include:

  • Makers Nights every Tuesday at 6.30pm – open, sociable sessions where people can explore the equipment and get hands‑on

  • Saturday opening hours from 10am to 4pm – perfect for weekend sessions and workshops

The space is available to use during the week when Wastesavers reuse shop in Maindee is open (Typically 9:30 -4pm each day).

Interested in running sessions or collaborating?

GAVO is encouraging local groups to reach out and explore how Makerspace could support your projects, activities or community development goals. Whether you have a fully formed idea or are just beginning to shape something new, the Makerspace team would love to hear from you.
