“Volunteers are the unsung heroes of our city and organisations like GAVO play a crucial role in supporting and championing them. - Cllr Harvey

GAVO is delighted to have been selected as one of the Mayor of Newport’s chosen charities for the year by Cllr Debbie Harvey.

Following the robing and swearing-in ceremony, Cllr Harvey announced that during her mayoral year she would champion volunteering and recognise the important contribution volunteers make across the city.

Speaking at the ceremony, Cllr Harvey said GAVO “plays such a vital role in our city” and is “at the heart of every Newport voluntary and community sector - day in, day out”.

“Its work often happens quietly but its impact is felt across the entire city,” she said.

As an organisation supporting communities across Gwent, this means a great deal to us - especially as volunteering continues to make such a positive difference to people and communities every day.

Throughout the year, we look forward to supporting mayoral events and activities, celebrating volunteers, and continuing to work alongside community groups, organisations and partners across Newport and the wider Gwent area.
