Introduction to Community Asset Transfer – Training Course

This is a 1-day introductory course on community asset transfer (CAT), suitable for community organisations.

 

The course is provided free of charge and is funded by the UK Government.  Availability

will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

 

  1. Background

An overview of the legal framework for CAT and how transfers take place in practice,

(This will cover the types of agreements commonly used and terms and conditions that

groups often need to pay particular consideration to).

  1. Asset or Liability?

An interactive exercise looking at the potential risks and benefits of taking on an asset.

  1. Preparing your organisation

A short look at how governance, staffing issues and financial planning may need to

adjust to support a potential asset transfer.

  1. Developing a business plan to support an asset transfer

A brief overview of the components of a business plan written to support an asset

transfer.

  1. Creating partnerships

Working with your local authority to identify and pursue a potential CAT, working with

other service providers to share risk and maximise your offer to local people.

  1. Case Studies

A series of examples of where CAT has worked, and where it hasn’t (highlighting

potential reasons for failure).
