Monmouthshire Visits the Senedd!
Bethan and Chris were invited as guests to visit Welsh Parliament for Monmouthshire Day alongside volunteers and community members who are making a real difference in their county. It was a valuable opportunity to celebrate the strength of local volunteering, hear important discussions about the challenges and opportunities facing our communities, and ensure that the voices of the sector are represented at a national level.
Here is what they got up to:
Bethan, Chris, Monmouthshire County Council and Bridges Centre met the dedicated volunteers outside Welsh Parliament and were welcomed by three Members of the Senedd.
They then had time to network with the wonderful volunteers to find out more about their organisations and offer support. Having the opportunity to spend quality time with these individuals and hear their stories is always appreciated as it reminds staff why people are so passionate about what they do.
They explored the Senedd and found a 'Your Voice Matters' board. It was heartwarming to see the priorities of the visitors to the space. Of course, Bethan took the opportunity to represent the Third Sector and popped this on the board...
Then it was time to sit down with their speaker, Huw, who told them about the history of the Senedd, what the materials used to to build it represents and how Members of the Senedd meet in the chamber to make those all important decisions that effect the community.
Thank you to the Senedd who gave GAVO such a warm welcome, Monmouthshire County Council for inviting us to celebrate with our community and especially to the volunteers who give their time, all the time. We are continually inspired by your passion, commitment and generosity. Volunteering doesn't just strengthen organisations, it strengthens communities, builds connections and creates positive change. Days like these remind us why investing in people and community action is so important.
