Newport City Council has launched the Reuse Newport Fund, a new initiative aimed at supporting innovative reuse and repair projects across the city. The fund is a key part of Newport’s commitment to its recycling strategy and its ambitious goal of reaching net zero by 2050.
With a total of £200,000 available, the fund will support a wide range of community-led activities that promote reuse, reduce waste, and build local skills. Grants of up to £75,000 per project are available, and applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis until the funding is fully allocated.
Eligible projects must be delivered between 1st April 2025 and 31st March 2026, and can include:
Community repair facilities
Reuse hubs and shops
Libraries of things
High street venues combining repair and reuse
Partnerships with social enterprises for volunteering and skills development
Collaborative initiatives around repair and reuse
High street recycling hubs, including drop-off points for small electrical items
Organisations eligible to apply include:
Registered charities (charity number required)
Not-for-profit organisations (must be a registered legal entity)
Community or voluntary groups (must have a constitution and group bank account)
Interested groups are encouraged to contact the team at reusenewportfund@newport.gov.uk to discuss their ideas and learn more about the application process.
This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape a greener future for Newport—while empowering communities through practical, sustainable action.
