Following the successful delivery of Windrush Grants since 2022, Race Council Cymru—led by the Windrush Cymru Elders—is pleased to announce the continuation of the small grants scheme for 2025. This initiative, supported by Welsh Government funding, aims to commemorate National Windrush Day | Windrush Cymru @ 77, which will be celebrated across Wales on 22 June 2025.

Now in its eighth year, National Windrush Day in Wales is a significant date in the national calendar. It serves as a powerful opportunity to recognise, honour, and celebrate the contributions of the Windrush Generation and their descendants to Welsh life and culture.

Call for Grant Applications

Race Council Cymru invites constituted groups and organisations based in Wales to apply for grants of up to £1,500 to deliver events, activities, and educational projects that mark Windrush Day 2025. With funding provided by the Welsh Government, the scheme encourages a broad range of community-led celebrations that highlight the legacy and ongoing impact of the Windrush Generation.

  • Are committed to educational outcomes, sharing key information about Windrush history.

  • Have clear governance, safeguarding, inclusion, and equality policies in place.

  • Applications must be made via the application form available below and returned by the 11th May 20025

Funding Guidelines

  • Grants of up to £1,500 are available per organisation.

  • Funds may only be used for revenue items such as project staff, contractors, refreshments, materials, and travel.

  • Capital expenditure is not permitted.

Funding Criteria

Applications should clearly demonstrate alignment with the following Welsh Government objectives:

  • Raise awareness of National Windrush Day | Windrush Cymru @ 77.

  • Promote positive narratives about the Windrush legacy.

  • Highlight the contributions of the Windrush Generation to Welsh society—historically, economically, and culturally.
