Are you a community group or voluntary organisation in Newport tackling food poverty? You could be eligible for a grant of £1,000 to £6,000 through the Direct Food Support Fund 2025, funded by the Welsh Government and administered by Newport City Council.


This grant supports projects that aim to:

  • Increase access to good quality food

  • Strengthen community food initiatives

  • Address the root causes of food poverty


🧩 Examples of eligible ideas include:

  • Purchasing culturally appropriate food (e.g. halal, vegetarian, gluten-free)

  • Supporting community gardens and local food growing projects

  • Training volunteers to support food distribution or cooking sessions

  • Hosting cooking and budgeting workshops for residents

  • Covering essential running costs (e.g. utilities, insurance) where risk of closure is demonstrated
