Are you a community group or voluntary organisation in Newport tackling food poverty? You could be eligible for a grant of £1,000 to £6,000 through the Direct Food Support Fund 2025, funded by the Welsh Government and administered by Newport City Council.
This grant supports projects that aim to:
Increase access to good quality food
Strengthen community food initiatives
Address the root causes of food poverty
🧩 Examples of eligible ideas include:
Purchasing culturally appropriate food (e.g. halal, vegetarian, gluten-free)
Supporting community gardens and local food growing projects
Training volunteers to support food distribution or cooking sessions
Hosting cooking and budgeting workshops for residents
Covering essential running costs (e.g. utilities, insurance) where risk of closure is demonstrated
