The way you apply for National Lottery funding through the Be Active Wales Fund has changed in recent years.

Instead of applying all year-round, you will be able to apply during specific windows to make sure that all applicants are given the highest standards of customer service.

Window one has opened today, so your club can apply for grant funding for on-field improvements such as equipment, coaching courses, venue hire and more to help you get more people playing.

There will be three windows of opportunity to apply this year:

  • Window 1: 9am Thursday 2nd April - Thursday 4th June 2026

  • Window 2: 9am Wednesday 8 July - Wednesday 16th September 2026

  • Window 3: 9am Wednesday 4th November – Wednesday 13th January 2027

Please note that you can only have one successful application across the three windows. You must submit your Expression of Interest at least one week before the closing date to ensure you have enough time to submit your full application.

About the fund

The Be Active Wales Fund is a National Lottery–supported grant programme designed to help not‑for‑profit sports clubs and community groups across Wales increase participation in sport, Clubs and groups can apply for grants ranging from £300 to £50,000 to help people become more active. Clubs should be aware that they must contribute at least 10% of the total project cost. This contribution helps demonstrate commitment and shared ownership of the project.

What Types of Projects Are Funded?

A wide range of activities can be supported through this fund, including:

  • Equipment purchases enabling wider participation

  • Coaching and volunteer training up to Level 2

  • Entry‑level courses (e.g., First Aid, Officiating)

  • Venue hire for newly formed teams

  • Pitch and facility improvement projects

These categories help clubs build capacity, develop volunteers, and improve accessibility for new participants.

Who is Eligible?

To qualify, organisations must:

  • Be a not‑for‑profit group or sports club

  • Deliver their project in Wales, primarily benefiting Welsh residents

  • Start only after funding is awarded

  • Exclude any items already purchased

  • Show how the project will increase participation in sport

This ensures the fund reaches community‑focused initiatives that are ready to make a meaningful impact.
