Could Your Organisation Help Spark Newport's Climate Conversation?

Newport City Council is looking for local organisations, community groups and passionate individuals to host a new series of Climate Cafés across the city – and your group could be one of the first to get involved.
Climate change can sometimes feel like a huge challenge, but some of the most powerful conversations start with something much simpler: a cup of tea, a friendly welcome and the chance to connect with others.
That's exactly what a Climate Café is all about.
A Space for Conversation, Ideas and Action
A Climate Café is an informal, inclusive gathering where people can come together to talk about climate change, share concerns, exchange ideas and discover what is already happening in their community. There is no need to be an expert and no expectation to have all the answers. Everyone's voice matters.
Unlike traditional meetings, there are no lengthy agendas, presentations or formal minutes. Instead, Climate Cafés create a relaxed environment where residents, community groups, local projects and organisations can connect, learn from one another and inspire positive action.
Whether people want to discuss local green spaces, reducing waste, community growing projects, energy saving, sustainable travel or simply explore ways to make a difference, a Climate Café provides the perfect setting to start the conversation.
Building on Newport's Success
Following a successful Climate Café hosted by Newport City Council in 2025, the Council now wants to see the idea grow through community leadership. Their vision is to establish a Climate Café every three months in different parts of Newport, bringing together diverse voices, experiences and ideas from across the city.
Community-led events often reach people in ways that formal consultations cannot. By hosting a Climate Café, your organisation can help create welcoming opportunities for residents to connect, share what matters to them and explore practical solutions together.
Support is Available
One of the best things about this opportunity is that there is no financial cost to the host organisation. Newport City Council will support hosts by covering venue hire, refreshments and associated costs up to £100 per café, as well as helping to promote the event.
Each café typically lasts between 60 and 90 minutes and can be tailored to suit your community and venue.
Could Your Organisation Host One?
The Council is currently looking for three organisations or individuals to host the first round of Climate Cafés. Hosts will:
Choose the date, time and location of their Climate Café.
Work with Newport City Council to promote the event.
Create a welcoming and accessible space for conversation.
Arrange guest speakers if they wish.
Share attendance information with the Council afterwards.
Community centres, charities, faith groups, social enterprises, schools, volunteer-led organisations and local networks are all encouraged to consider getting involved.
