Community groups, schools, non-profit organisations and local residents in Newport are being encouraged to apply for funding of up to £5,000 to support projects that deliver lasting impact in their communities.
The latest round of the Microsoft Wales Community Fund is now open for applications, offering both financial support and practical resources to help bring new or existing ideas to life.
The fund is focused on supporting projects that help build thriving, inclusive and sustainable communities across Newport. Priority themes include:
Digital skills
Future workforce development
Science, technology, engineering, arts and maths (STEAM)
Artificial intelligence
Sustainability and the environment
Water and climate action
This is the second time the fund has been delivered in Newport, where previous investment has supported 14 local projects, reaching more than 4,350 local people.
Supporting inclusive climate action in Newport
One of the projects supported through the previous round was KidCare4U, a Newport-based charity working with families from the global majority. Their funded project, Sustainable Futures for Diverse Communities, focused on making climate awareness more accessible and culturally relevant.
Through a mix of outdoor visits and hands-on workshops, the project created safe, inclusive spaces where young people and families could explore environmental issues in ways that reflected their lived experiences and languages.
Reflecting on the impact of the funding, the organisation shared:

“We’ve created safe, inclusive spaces where climate awareness is explored in languages that are understood and culturally relevant. From visiting local natural spaces to running hands-on workshops, we’re helping young people build a connection with the environment and encouraging them to think about their role in protecting it.”
This example highlights the type of community-led, locally relevant projects the fund aims to support particularly those that remove barriers to participation and engage underrepresented groups.
What can funding be used for?
Groups can apply for funding to:
Develop their own community project, or
Deliver a proven idea that has already demonstrated success elsewhere
Examples include projects that build digital and AI skills, support environmental action such as pollinator initiatives, or deliver practical activities focused on energy awareness and sustainability.
The application deadline is 30 June 2026, and projects will be assessed against eligibility and simple project planning criteria.
