Get Ahead with Volunteering Course

Register your interest for this free nine-week online training programme from The Open University in Wales.


The Get Ahead With Volunteering programme is designed to help you enhance your professional skills and develop in your volunteering career.

Delivered on Microsoft Teams, the programme consists of a variety of online workshops designed to help you get the most out of the online learning resources that are available through The Open University’s free OpenLearn platform.


Workshop topics include leadership skills for volunteers, how to improve confidence, overcoming barriers to learning, and reflective practice. You’ll also have the opportunity to find out more about further study with the OU.


During the programme, additional face to face support will be offered by County Voluntary Councils (CVCs) where possible.  

The Get Ahead With Volunteering programme starts with an introductory session on the 8 October 2024, 10.00am - 11.30am, delivered online via Microsoft Teams.


The programme then runs at the same time each week for eight more weeks until December.

  2. OpenLearn – ‘our best kept secret’ 

  3. Getting the best out of volunteering – learning reflective practice 

  4. Self-directed learning 

  5. Resilience and recognising your skills 

  6. Confidence and recognising your skills 

  7. Leadership Learning 

  8. Being a volunteer – putting into practice 

  9. Progression: What next?
