The Welsh Government Energy Service is launching a new grant scheme to support implementation‑ready renewable energy projects delivered by the public sector and community enterprises across Wales.

The scheme is designed to help bring larger and more ambitious renewable energy projects to life, particularly those with longer financial payback periods. It complements existing support, including the Wales Funding Programme and the Local Energy Grant, by providing top‑up capital funding to strengthen project viability and improve overall returns.

The grant is open to both building‑connected and grid‑export renewable energy projects, but is only available for schemes that can be fully delivered by 30 November 2026.

What the grant will support

Funding is available for renewable energy projects that are ready to proceed, including (but not limited to):

  • Solar canopies

  • Battery energy storage systems

  • Private wire networks

  • Grid‑connected renewable generation

Who can apply

The scheme is open to:

  • Public sector organisations

  • Community enterprises

  • Maximum grant award of up to 40% of total project capital costs

  • Can be used alongside loan funding, including the Wales Funding Programme

  • Successful projects can draw down funding in this financial year and next
