One Million Mentors

One Million Mentors have some fantastic opportunities to support your local youth and community for April 2024. One Million Mentors (1MM) have successfully run programmes in Newport since 2023 with the brilliant support of Newport City Council. They are now looking for mentors to join in Caerleon High School, Llanwern High School and Ysgol Gyfun Gwent Is Coed High School where they have some enthusiastic mentees ready to start their mentoring journey!

These are in - person school programmes. This would mean that commitment to the programme is important in order to meet with your mentee. As this is a school programme, a timetable has also been created to ensure your mentor sessions are on school site where teachers are available to supervise.

Below are dates for the sessions, they are more than happy to take mentors in March as well!

  • Caerleon High School (9th April 1:05 pm - 3:05pm)

  • Llanwern High School (16th April 9:30 am - 11 am)

  • Ysgol Gyfun Gwent Is Coed High School (16th April 11:30am - 1:10pm)

  • Lliswerry High School (23rd April 10am - 11am)

Here are the school timetables and more details of each programme.

What is 1MM?

1MM mentoring empowers young people to become the best version of themselves: building relationships - free of assumption and judgement - where they benefit from another’s experience and perspective and can think bigger, find their own answers and take the next meaningful step into their future.

They recruit, train and deploy volunteer mentors, matching them with mentees and providing high quality support to both, so that they are well prepared and can have an effective and impactful mentoring relationship. Their mentoring is one to one, for young people aged 14-25 years old, for 1 hour, once a month, for up to a year.

All they ask of their volunteers is to sign up to their platform at www.1mm.org.uk and complete some mandatory online training.

You can find more of what they do here: One Million Mentors

 How do I get involved?

There are plenty of ways of how you can help, but here is a step - by - step guide on how!

1.       Sign up on their platform on www.1mm.org.uk. Sign up as a mentor.

2.       Complete your Online Profile and Training - This will take approximately 1 hour.

3.       Attend a Mentor Induction Workshop. After completing the training, you will be sent an invite for one of their monthly Mentor Induction Workshops. You can attend either before or after your first session.

4.       They will match you with a Mentee. Once all training is completed and you have registered for a workshop, they will match you to a mentee.

5.       You will be in a school supporting a Young Person!

Socials: They are on Instagram, Twitter and Linkedin to find out on the latest news and powerful stories that they encounter everyday at 1MM.

They also have their own podcasts to listen to! Here they discuss the mentoring journey from both mentors and mentees from 1MM!

If this is something you are interested in, they would love to hear back from you if you would like to discuss next steps or any enquiries you may have. They look forward to having amazing mentors volunteering in their Newport programmes!
