Community groups, charities, schools and organisations supporting children and young people across Gwent are being encouraged to apply for funding through the Tesco Fruit & Veg Grants programme.
The programme supports projects that help children and young people access healthy and nutritious food while also improving their physical and mental wellbeing. With increasing numbers of families facing financial pressures, the fund aims to give local organisations the extra support they need to provide healthy meals, snacks and wellbeing-focused activities.
Research highlighted by the programme shows the growing need for food support, with many schools and community organisations now providing food for children from already stretched budgets. As a result, Tesco is particularly keen to support projects that make healthy food more accessible to children and young people.
Funding can be used for a wide range of activities, including providing fruit for breakfast clubs, meals at holiday or sports clubs, healthy snacks during sessions, and projects that encourage children to grow their own fruit and vegetables. Applications that combine food provision with activities that support wellbeing, such as mental health support, special educational needs provision, outdoor activities or emotional wellbeing programmes, are especially welcomed.
The fund is open to schools, PTAs, registered charities, voluntary and community organisations, health bodies, social enterprises, housing organisations, local authorities and other eligible not-for-profit organisations that support children, young people and families. Tesco places particular emphasis on projects working directly with children and young people and those that help address food insecurity.
The grant programme operates throughout the year. Successful projects are shortlisted for a community vote in local Tesco stores, with grants of £1,500, £1,000 and £500 available for the projects receiving the highest number of customer votes.
If your organisation has an idea that could benefit children and young people through healthy food, wellbeing activities or community support, this could be an excellent opportunity to secure funding.
