As part of GAVO’s ongoing series showcasing the incredible work of community organisations across Newport, we are proud to highlight Seeds of Hope who are making a powerful difference to local families through inclusion, creativity and support.

Seeds of Hope is dedicated to supporting neurodivergent children and their families, the group focuses on creating safe, welcoming spaces where individuals can connect, build confidence and feel celebrated for who they are.

Through a growing programme of activities from sensory play sessions and family events to inclusive sports days and community experiences the group has already begun to make a lasting impact across Newport. These initiatives are designed not only to support young people, but also to bring families together, reduce isolation, and strengthen community connections.

At the heart of Seeds of Hope is a simple but powerful belief: everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive in a supportive and understanding environment.

Tackling Barriers and Building Understanding

For many families, accessing support is not always straightforward. In some communities, including within parts of the Muslim community, there can be stigma, misunderstanding, or cultural barriers around neurodiversity and additional needs.

Seeds of Hope is working directly to address this creating culturally sensitive, inclusive spaces where families feel safe to engage, ask questions and access support without judgement. By doing so, the group is helping to break down barriers, challenge misconceptions, and open up conversations that may not have previously felt accessible.

At its heart, the project is about empowerment ensuring that children and their families feel seen, supported, and confident to take part in community life.

Supporting a Vision to Grow

Like many emerging community groups, Seeds of Hope started with a strong idea and a passion for making a difference. With support from GAVO, that idea has grown into a thriving and sustainable project.

GAVO has worked alongside the group at each stage of their journey providing guidance on governance, helping to identify suitable funding opportunities, and supporting successful grant applications.

This support has enabled Seeds of Hope to secure funding for a range of activities, including delivering a local Warm Hub during the winter months.

By accessing this funding, Seeds of Hope was able to extend its reach even further offering not just activities, but a space for connection, support and belonging during the winter months.

Building a Stronger Community Together

The success of Seeds of Hope highlights the importance of collaboration across the third sector. With the right support, local groups can grow their ideas into meaningful, community-led solutions that respond directly to local needs.

Through its work, Seeds of Hope is helping to break down barriers, promote inclusion, and ensure that families feel supported, valued and connected.

“It’s been fantastic to work alongside Seeds of Hope and see their vision develop into something that is making a real difference to people’s lives. This is exactly what community led action is about, identifying local need and creating inclusive, meaningful support for those who need it most. We’re proud to have supported them on their journey and look forward to seeing what they achieve next.”— Dan Coast, Community Development Officer, GAVO Newport
