Community groups, charities, churches, sports clubs and environmental organisations in Newport are being encouraged to apply to the Welsh Church Acts Fund, which provides grants to support projects that benefit local residents.

The fund supports a wide range of charitable activities, including education, relief of poverty, health and wellbeing, recreation and leisure opportunities, preservation of Welsh heritage, support for older people, and projects that help people facing hardship or disadvantage.

Newport City Council has set additional local criteria for the fund. Grants of up to £10,000 are available for groups and organisations that can demonstrate a clear benefit to Newport residents. Eligible applicants include community groups, charities, churches and religious groups, sports and recreation clubs, and environmental organisations.

The fund is intended to support specific projects rather than ongoing operational costs. Applications for salaries, rent, room hire, travel expenses, annual trips or other day-to-day running costs will not normally be considered. However, funding for equipment may be available where it supports the establishment of a new group or helps an existing organisation develop and reach more Newport residents.

Applications must align with one or more of the charitable purposes set out within the Welsh Church Acts Fund scheme, including education, community wellbeing, health, recreation, heritage, and support for people experiencing hardship.
