What Is the Community Cohesion Fund?
The Community Cohesion Fund is part of Newport City Council’s commitment to building stronger, more inclusive communities. A cohesive community is one where people from all backgrounds feel safe, respected, and connected through shared values and mutual understanding.
This fund supports community groups and third sector organisations in delivering projects that bring people together, celebrate diversity, and foster positive relationships across Newport.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible, applicants must:
Be a constituted voluntary organisation or community group.
Have a bank or building society account in the organisation’s name (or a host organisation to manage funds).
Hold relevant insurance as per their constitution.
Note: Individuals or unconstituted groups are not eligible. Funding cannot be used for salaries, property maintenance, or regular operational costs.
What Can the Grant Be Used For?
Projects must align with at least one of the following objectives:
Foster integration and increase social contact between diverse communities.
Tackle loneliness, isolation, or segregation through shared experiences.
Address community tensions and challenge stereotypes or misconceptions.
Examples of eligible activities include:
Cultural celebrations and awareness campaigns
Cooking sessions, music or arts-based projects
Sports and dance events
Educational workshops and hate crime awareness
How to Apply
Complete the application form.
Email it to community.cohesion@newport.gov.uk by 30th June 2025.
Await notification of your application outcome via email.
What Happens If You're Successful?
You’ll receive a one-off payment of up to £2,000.
You must complete your project by March 2026.
You’ll be required to submit a final report, including receipts, photos, and testimonials.
Newport City Council may request case studies or site visits to monitor progress.
