Applications Open for Newport Community Development and Grassroots Sports Grants

Community organisations, charities, social enterprises and grassroots sports groups in Newport are being encouraged to apply for two new funding opportunities designed to support local projects and strengthen communities across the city. Applications are now open and will close on 28 August 2026.
The funding from the council is available through:
Community Development Grant Scheme – grants from £500 to £30,000, with higher-value requests considered in exceptional circumstances.
Grassroots Sports Together Fund – grants of up to £5,000 for sports and community-based initiatives.
Supporting Local Communities
The grants are open to a range of organisations, including charities, social enterprises, voluntary sector organisations, grassroots sports clubs and community groups. Applicant organisations should be based in Newport, although exceptional cases may be considered for the Community Development Grant Scheme.
Funding is intended to support new or additional activities that benefit Newport communities and would not happen without grant support. Existing activities may also be considered where organisations can demonstrate a strong track record of impact and a clear need for continued funding. Both revenue and capital costs can be supported where they are directly linked to project delivery.
Projects funded through the programme must be completed by 28 February 2027.
Preparing Your Application
Organisations are encouraged to read the guidance carefully before applying and to prepare their application offline before completing the online form. Applications cannot be saved in draft format, so applicants should ensure they have all required information and supporting details ready before they begin.
Project proposals should include a clear and realistic budget, demonstrate value for money, and explain how the proposed activity will benefit local communities.
