The Landfill Disposals Tax Communities Scheme (LDTCS) is a Welsh Government grant programme managed by WCVA. It supports community-led environmental projects located within five miles of eligible landfill or waste transfer stations across Wales.
Purpose of the Scheme
The scheme aims to offset the negative impacts of waste disposal by funding initiatives that improve local environments and benefit communities. Projects can apply for grants of £5,000 to £49,999 and must align with one or more of the following themes:
Enhance habitats and support native species and pollinators.
Restore and maintain natural ecosystems.
Promote community engagement and understanding of biodiversity.
2. Waste Minimisation
Encourage waste prevention, reuse, and recycling.
Support composting and food waste reduction.
Promote awareness of waste as a resource and circular economy principles.
3. Wider Environmental Enhancements
Create or improve community green spaces and infrastructure.
Revitalize neglected areas for community use.
Upgrade community facilities such as halls and meeting spaces.
Eligibility
Projects must be located within five miles of a qualifying landfill or waste transfer station. Use the Eligibility Area Checker to confirm your location. Sites are reviewed each funding round, so it’s important to check the map before applying.
Note: Biodiversity projects that extend beyond the five-mile radius may still be considered if they demonstrate clear environmental benefits.

If you would like your application to be considered as part of window 2, please submit it by 11.59 pm on 12 December 2025.

Eligibility
The Landfill Disposals Tax Communities Scheme will fund projects within five miles of certain waste transfer stations or landfill sites. Eligible sites are those that reported sending in excess of 2,000 tonnes to landfill in the reporting year, and are reviewed annually a map showing eligible sites shown on the WCVA website via the link at the bottom of the page.
Biodiversity projects that extend outside of the five-mile radius may be considered, as habitats (such as rivers) do not recognise boundaries and benefits may reach wider areas. These applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis for full or partial funding.
